Respond!, Ireland’s largest housing association is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the new development in St. Joseph’s Gardens, Coomlogane, Milstreet, Co Cork. The 32 one-bed unit development will help ease the housing need of older persons and single people in the North Cork area. It is expected that all building work will be completed by November 2008.

According to Andrew McCarthy, Respond! Area Manager:
“We are pleased that this development is progressing to schedule and we look forward to welcoming our new residents to St Joseph’s Gardens by the end of the year. The 32 one-bed units will cater for older persons, as well as single people and if anyone is interested in applying for one of these new apartments, they should contact Respond!.”

Founded in Waterford in 1982, Respond! has gained more than 25 years experience in the provision of accommodation and services for older persons. The housing charity has provided more than 530 units of accommodation in Cork city and county. The organisation has also provided housing for older persons in the county in areas such as Youghal, Blackpool and Cobh.

In 2006, Respond! regenerated the former Blackpool flats and now provide a modern, integrated housing scheme on the site. This five storey development consists of 62 two and three bedroom units. These include 40 homes for older persons, 12 family homes and a group home that is managed by the COPE Foundation. The complex also includes a day care centre for older persons (available to both Respond! residents and members of the wider community), a social room, first floor terraced garden, under-ground car park and a separate communal facility for residents with intellectual difficulties.

“Respond! is delighted to have received awards for our complex in Blackpool and we hope to emulate the success of that development in Coomlogane, Milstreet”, added Mr McCarthy. “As this development will be finalised by November 2008, we are now accepting applications and anyone who thinks they may qualify should contact the Respond!
