Following the recent decision by the Homeless Agency to reconfigure the provision of homeless support services in Dublin, Respond! Housing Association is disappointed to announce the closure of its Transitional Housing Unit in Drumcondra, Dublin. The housing charity has met with staff and residents in the past number of days to inform them of the winding down of the service by October 2010. Respond! would like to assure all residents that they are committed to working with them and the Homeless Agency to find suitable, alternative accommodation to meet their individual needs in the coming months.
According to spokesperson Aoife Walsh, Respond! regrets that the Homeless Agency’s decision to withdraw support for this transitional housing project.
“Respond! is deeply saddened that funding for Conrath House has been withdrawn. We have been providing good quality transitional accommodation in the centre since 2004. Conrath House is a safe, clean and supportive environment for residents who avail of the service following a difficult period in their lives. The aim of the centre is to provide a stepping stone from emergency / temporary accommodation to independent living and permanent housing. It is unfortunate that this service can no longer be continued but we would like to reassure all residents that we will work with them to source alternative accommodation where they can continue their transition back into the community.”
Respond! has received assurances from the Homeless Agency that the withdrawal of fundig will be carried out in a gradual manner that respects both residents and staff.
