Rowan Heights in Drogheda, Co Louth was designed by Respond Housing Association and constructed by M. Glennon Ltd in 1999. The estate was built with the support of Drogheda Borough Council and Louth County Council and was kindly funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. Rowan Heights contains 86 family homes and communal facilities for residents.

On the estate exists a very active residents association who initiated the Go Green Go Project on the estate in 2008. This consisted of a blessing of the entire estate and other achievements include:

  • planting of 75 trees of various species and 1400 daffodil plants
  • Youth centred meetings where the young people on the estates prioritised a safe, secure play areas within the estate which is now knows as the Nulit Usage Games Area. This area consists of professional outdoor football nets and locally sourced engineered basketball nets.
  • The Go Green Go Committee in association with Respond Housing Association have delivered a safe pass training course with residents so they can become ambassadors of safety throughout the project’s lifespan
  • Development of a time capsule
  • The committee have also undertaken committee skills training

On the estate there are currently 2 youth groups catering for approximately 50 children. Respond Housing Association are currently working in partnership with AWAARE who have offered to run a mental health awareness programme for teenagers. They will deliver a “Beat the Blues” programme in the community building that will benefit local young people. The BER rating for this estate is F.
