Chesterfield Close in Birr, Co Offaly was designed by Respond Housing Association and built by Thomas Kelly & Sons Ltd. The estate was built with the support of Birr Town Council, Offaly County Council and funding from the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. Chesterfield Close contains 25 homes and a community building that provides a pre-school service to the children of the local community. The childcare service aims to create high-quality affordable childcare places for families on low income, which in turn can help parents to return to work / education. The pre-school aims to provide young children with vital skills to prepare them for development and further education. The pre-school accommodates 25 children who participate in a variety of activities each day including arts and crafts, make and do, cooking, physical activities etc.

In addition the community building also contains a volunteer homework club for primary children in a safe environment where they can also interact with their peers. Through the home work programme, children can also take part in a variety of programmes including arts and crafts and various indoor and outdoor games.
Two successful youth clubs are run on a weekly basis catering for children aged 6-17 years. The youth club for older children is supported by Foróige where they take part in various activities including table tennis pool cookery classes, boxing training etc. The centre also runs a successful summer camp each year for 3 weeks and catering for children from 5-12 years.

Chesterfield Close in Birr was built with the support of Offaly County Council and was kindly funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. The estate contains 25 homes as well as communal facilities for residents.
