Family Fun Day in Waterford

Residents of Respond Housing Association enjoyed a day of fun and activities on June 27th 2008 in Árd na Ghleanna, Tramore. The day was held to celebrate the Árd na Ghleanna Community Building which offers a range of services and facilities to the local community. A large crowd attended the event including local councillors, community and voluntary groups, Local Authority members, HSE personnel and Respond Residents.

According to Aoife Walsh, Respond National Communications Officer:
“Respond is pleased to celebrate the Árd na Ghleanna Community Building and all that it offers to the neighbourhood. Respond provides a range of services in the centre including childcare services, pre-school and after-school services, PEEP, Youthreath, Low Income Counselling, IT in the Community and much more. We are thrilled with the support we have received from local residents to date and we hope this continues in the future.”

Those who attended the community day in Árd na Ghleanna partook in a range of activities and events. These included fun games, face painting, story telling sessions, arts and crafts, DJ, music and dancing. With more than one hundred in attendance, the event brought neighbours and families together in a fun atmosphere. Information sessions on the various services being offered by Respond and other community groups also took place in the Community Centre throughout the afternoon.

“Respond has gained more than 25 years experience in housing, estate management and community development and our primary focus has always been on building communities, not just homes” added Ms Walsh. “The presence of a community building on our estates is one step to achieving this goal. The majority of Respond developments throughout Ireland contain centres that offer services to residents. These include affordable childcare, pre-school and after-school services, homework clubs, summer camps, volunteer initiatives, computer training and community education.”
