Respond, Ireland’s leading construction led Approved Housing Body and service provider, has teamed up with Drogheda United to create a memorable matchday experience for one of its young tenants in Drogheda.
Through a collaboration between Drogheda United and the Free Kick Foundation, 12-year-old Rihard Kandis from Respond’s Newtown View estate was selected to attend the club’s May 1st fixture against Sligo Rovers. As part of the initiative, Rihard has the special opportunity to take part as an official matchday mascot.
Rihard, who lives with his mother and two siblings is a passionate Drogheda United supporter. Speaking about the experience, Rihard’s mother, Liga said:
“Living in a Respond community has been a really positive experience for us, as it has given us stability and a strong sense of community. Having Rihard attend a Drogheda United match as a mascot means a lot to us, especially as Rihard is a big fan. It’s really special for him to feel connected to the club and see something like this happening. It brings a lot of excitement and pride.”
The Community Mascot Experience aims to deliver unforgettable days for children in the local area during home matches at Sullivan and Lambe Park. Drogheda United is the first League of Ireland club to partner with Free Kicks Foundation, whose mission is to provide football-related experiences for children who are ill, bereaved, or disadvantaged.

The club continues to collaborate with a range of local organisations, including Respond, to ensure more children can benefit form this unique opportunity at Sullivan & Lambe Park.
