Guiding Principles
As a people focussed, listening and learning organisation, Respond’s ethos of professional development and up-skilling is reflected in our employee engagement rate of 8.1 (out of 10)
With roots in early 1980s Waterford, Respond emerged from a community-driven response to a local housing need. Their inaugural development, Francis Court, provided safe and secure housing for both young families and older adults.
Demonstrating a commitment to innovation from the outset, Respond developed a unique financial model that positioned them as pioneers in Ireland’s social housing landscape.
This forward-thinking approach secured their participation in the development of government-backed schemes such as the Capital Assistance Scheme and the Capital Loan and Subsidy Scheme, leaving a lasting impact on the national approach to affordable housing.
“I just love attending, I have a whole new group of friends that I get to see every week for the chat and banter over a coffee and then have our lunch together. The staff are so enthusiastic, making the day fun while always keeping an eye on us to make sure we are keeping well. I can talk to them, like really talk if I’m worried about something. They were in touch and visiting all through Covid, and I really appreciated that. The club gives me a reason to get up, get dressed and stick a bit of lippy on!”

“My mother never sang in her all her life. Since she started attending St Francis Gardens DayCentre she is bursting out in song all the time. We could be in a restaurant and she will start singing out of nowhere”

“I enjoy coming to St Francis Gardens Day Centre. The staff lift my spirits. I enjoy the quizzes as they keep my brain sharp. I need that as I am living alone”
