The Bealtaine festival was established in Ireland in 1996 and is an Age and Opportunity community initiative part-funded by the Arts Council and delivered by hundreds of organisations around the country with an estimated 120,000 people now taking part nationally.
This year the theme for the festival is ‘and catch the heart off guard’, a phase from Seamus Heaney’s poem Postscript.
Respond has taken part in Bealtaine on an annual basis, by hosting events and supporting Active in Age in Oranmore, Galway and are delighted to be in a position to host a number of activities again this year.
Events hosted by Respond Oranmore, this year include:
Art Workshop: Wednesday 7th 2pm to 5pm
The workshop will involve a painting session in acrylics facilitated by local artist, Soizick Liseaux.
Slide Show: Wednesday 14th 2pm to 4pm
The slide show will be facilitated by Brendan Lawlor who has travelled abroad extensively
Sing-a-Long Workshop: Wednesday 21st 2pm to 4pm
The sing-a-long workshop will be facilitated by Anne Marie McGreevy who has been choir mistress of the Oranmore Church Choir for many years. Anne Marie will provide the words and music so that we can all sing along to all the old favourites.
Music, Dancing & Performance Workshop: Wednesday 28th 2pm to 4pm
The music, dancing and performance workshop will bring everyone together to celebrate the end the Oranmore Bealtaine Festival. Joining us in a party setting will be local musicians and performers and contributions from the participants at the event.
