This year 2015 marks the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the Respond estate at Ard An Ghleanna, Tramore, Co. Waterford. 26 families received the keys to their new homes in 2005 and the residents wished to mark this anniversary with a community family fun-day which took place on 18th July
The beautiful warm sunshine brought the community out in large numbers. There was a great party atmosphere, DJ Freddie was MC for the afternoon, and he kept the place rocking with the latest hits adding to the great atmosphere. Balloons, bunting brightened up the estate and popcorn, minerals and treats were served putting everyone in the party spirit.
The magician had people in awe of his talents with cards and tricks. Children also enjoyed the skills of the balloon entertainer who moulded and shaped balloons into animals, flowers, guns, anything the imagination could dream of, the children loved it.
The spectacular Mayfield Birds of Prey were fantastic and a rare opportunity to meet, handle and fly a variety of these wonderful birds, falcons, owls, etc. giving children and adults the option of getting up close and personal with these rulers of the sky. They also gained an insight into the ancient art of falconry. The handler explained all about the amazing birds and those gathered could learn the important role they play in their natural habitat and also learn the technique used in the management, training and hunting of these raptors in captivity.
Ruth Flynn shared her artistic talents with the children in an art and craft workshop designing masks and swords. Children were very creative and enjoyed the workshops.
Older teenagers enjoyed the bubble soccer which was great fun and brought out the child in everyone.
The day was jam packed with things to do, sack races, relays, egg n spoon races were a treat to watch, children received a medal on the day for their efforts.
Respond Housing Association would like to thank all staff and volunteers who committed to the success of the 10 year celebration. Also a big thank you to the local shops who gave generously in spot prizes for the raffle held on the day.
