Respond residents of Oakland Drive, Comeragh Court and St. Francis Court King Street have been marking the Summer of 2014 by organising Family Fun Days. Both events took place in August as the summer draws to a close.
In Oakland Drive the flags flew high with many houses donning the blue and gold for Tipp. Also soaring high were flags from Limerick, Poland, Italy, England and Ireland highlighting the many different cultures and nationalities within the community, this event brought everyone together with an estimated attendance of 100 people. The day began with childrens’ field games and races followed by music provided by a local group Red Melody, who gave their time to the community free of charge. Having worked up an appetite proceedings moved to the community building where refreshments were served from 4pm and goody bags and certificates were distributed to all participants.
The Comeragh event took a skip down memory lane as games that have passed down through the generation were played i.e. hop scotch, skittles hula hoops and egg and spoon races. There was another large attendance of about 50 people partaking in the festivities. As energy level dropped the events moved into the Community Building where refreshments were served and the committee had organised a raffle with prizes galore and goody bags for all children who had taken part in the big day. Both events were a resounding success and brilliant fun was had by all.
These two events would not have been possible without the support from the extended community and all who attended who helped made these family fun events such a great success.
Well done and a massive thank you to the residents who organised the events plus the organisations and local businesses who sponsored the many prizes and the refreshments ; including Respond, Gala Mother Hubburds, KK Discounts, Tescos and Spicy Bites. Fabulous face painting was provided for both events through the National Playdays funding, Department of Children and Youth Affairs kindly distributed through Margo Hayes Tipperary County Council.
