On Saturday evening the 14th of September Carraig Liath estate was commended from “Midleton Tidy Towns” “Love where you live awards 2013” for the Participant- Best public service premises in the upkeep of the estate and community building. This was the only social housing estate in Midleton to get an award on the night. Carraig Liath is an integrated estate with Respond and Town Council residents.

The residents and enhancement committees came together over the last five years. These volunteers, with the support of our Residents Support Worker Helena Crotty, have created flower tubs, flowerbeds, and hanging baskets. A weekly rota of litter picking day also includes some of the children on the estate. This is headed-up by resident Joan McDermott who has done great work getting people involved on the estate. Joan involved the children with planting flowers and litter picking which have proved to be very positive. Discussions regarding the environment and plants have raised everyones interest in doing more on their estate. A number of residents have been in involved in keeping their gardens looking well and helping with the committees.

Receiving the award has given the Carraig Liath estate and volunteers motivation to do even better next year with the input of the Tidy Towns Committee.

We would like to say well done to all the residents, and thanks for all the support in helping with this achievement. We look forward with pride and enthusiasm to continue to work together as a community to keep Carraig Liath looking great.
