BEEP BEEP DAY at Ard an Ghleanna Childcare Respond –
Sandra  Morrissey (Childcare Leader)

Beep Beep 3Ard an Ghleanna Childcare was delighted to take part and promote road safety in the pre-school with the children by taking part in the National “Beep Beep Day!” We had lots of fun practising age appropriate road safety skills by using the RSA’s “Simon and Friends” road safety story books and activities.  Attitudes to road safety are very important and young children need practical skills in understanding this concept.  We read stories, went for a walk and talked about the importance of road safety.  The “Beep Beep Day!” linked in with our curriculum while we incorporated the themes of Aistear and standards of Siolta to encourage a maximum learning experience.

Beep Beep 2The children had the opportunity to develop new skills while observing, listening, talking to and mimicking appropriate behaviours linked to road safety.  At the end of the day each child brought home their RSA “Beep Beep Day!” high visibility jackets to continue practising at home with their parents.

In total 14 pre-school children, 3 childcare professionals Sandra Morrissey, Aine O Hehir and Bernadette Wall and 1 volunteer Joe Ward took part in our “Beep Beep Day!”

BEEP BEEP DAY AT HILLTOP CHILDCARE CENTRE RESPOND! KILLENAULE-Bernadette Shaw Shanahan (Childcare Leader)

hiltop 1Hilltop preschool children took part in beep beep day on Friday 09/10/2015. All children were very good in their road safety awareness. Parents and drivers passing by beeped their horns to acknowledge the children and the purpose of the day. There were four staff to guide the children around Killenaule, stopping traffic was Bernadette Shaw Shanahan and Sandra Curran, leading the children across the road was Ann Marie Walsh and Lauren O’ Sullivan along with a parent, the rain stayed away while we were out with the children. Back at Hilltop were some of the children’s parents waiting thought that beep beep day is a wonderful way to teach their child road safety awareness.

It was an enjoyable and learning experience for the children and the children sang the song the wheels on the bus goes round and round at large group time to finish the day.
