Oaklawn residents roll up their sleeves for fifth annual community clean-up

Home to 114 people, the Oaklawns has held the event five years in a row

Residents of Oaklawns came together for a hands-on community clean-up day organised by Respond, a construction-led Approved Housing Body and service provider, in partnership with Meath Partnership.

Home to 114 people, the Oaklawns has now held the event five years in a row with Respond’s Tenant Experience team supporting neighbours of all ages to tidy shared spaced and enjoy family-friendly activities on the estate.

Meath Partnership provided a skip so rubbish could be safely disposed of. Children who took part received goodie bags and enjoyed pizza as a thank you for their efforts.

This local initiative is growing. A similar clean-up is planned for Mine View, Respond’s new local development, next week. Both organisations are also working with residents to create a community allotment garden in the same estate, giving people a place to grow food and meet their neighbours.

Niamh Randall, Spokesperson for Respond commented on the community collaboration:

“Bringing communities together, like we have seen in The Oaklawns is at the heart of Respond’s work.  With Meath Partnership and our Tenant Experience team, we are delighted to see a thriving, supportive community. Relationships like this help to keep these areas safe, welcoming places that people feel at home in.”

A Respond building on the estate is used by Meath Partnership as an outreach centre, providing space for community groups, courses and one-to-one meetings for local programmes.
