2014 265Well done to the residents at Respond estate Oaktree Court who have won ‘best housing estate’ in Borris for the second year running, through the local Pride of Place Awards.

The residents work hard all year round  planting flowers and trees, looking after flowerbeds, grass cutting etc. and any such  initiatives to improve the estate in preparation for the annual tidy towns event.  Local resident Adam Wright attends all local Pride of Place meetings.

One of our elderly Estate residents ( 84 year old Mary Travers ) was also awarded a small prize for her spectacular garden which is in full bloom each spring/summer.

Jen Danaher – Respond Resident Support Worker for the estate stated:

“Respond is about building communities and encouraging our residents to build ‘vibrant communities’  it’s great to see the place looking so well and our residents taking a real pride and ownership in the appearance of their estate. It’s fantastic to see all their efforts rewarded through the pride of place initiative and Respond is also very  committed to the continued support and development of this group”.

Borris Community Playschool have also recently moved to our community building located  in the centre of the estate. Borris Community playschool have transformed the area around the community building which includes the installation of a beautiful play area for the children at the back of the building.

Borris Playschool openingThere was huge excitement in the Summer when Borris Community Playschool relocated to the Respond community building in Oak Tree Court. The old playschool was based in a single room at the back of the town hall for fourteen years, so to move to a much bigger building was exciting for everyone.

The Borris Community Playschool was officially opened on 29th August 2014 by Minister Ann Phelan and Cllr Willie Quinn. The opening day was a great success with more than forty children crossing the threshold for the very first time.
