Parent Wellbeing – Shannon, Co Clare

DSC_4139DSC_4138Congratulations to the parents of Shannon, Co Clare, who have completed a seven week Parent Wellbeing Programme. The programme, developed by Respond Housing Association and Shannon Family Resource Centre, worked with parents from the area to assist them with social and personal development through a range of health and well-being initiatives.

Objectives of the Parent Wellbeing Programme include:

  1. Improve the well-being of parents and children by actively encouraging parent self-care
  2. Encourage social inclusion through wellness of the mind and body.
  3. Provide information on local services
  4. Foster relationships, peer support and positive role modeling within the group
  5. Support parents in their own development and active learning

Parents participated in various workshops each week including relaxation, nutrition and family cooking, stress management, body wellness/exercise and learning about the importance of play with children. Lynda O’ Donovan, Family Support Worker, Respond Housing Association said:

‘This has been a very successful first year of the Parent Wellbeing Programme in Shannon and, we hope to run another Parent Wellbeing Programme in the new year’.

Congratulations also to the parents of Ballygrennan Close, Moyross and Distillery View, Thomandgate, Limerick, who have completed an eight week Parent Wellbeing Programme. The programme, funded under the €1m IPB Youth and Community Fund and Respond Housing Association, worked with parents from the area to assist them with social and personal development through a range of health and well-being initiatives.

Parents participated in various workshops each week including therapeutic yoga, nutrition and family cooking, stress management, beauty, body wellness and exercise. One highlight of the programme was trip to a local spa treatment centre for parents to treat themselves after eight weeks of hard work.

Lynda O’ Donovan, Family Support Worker, Respond added:

‘We would also like to thank Lorna O’ Sullivan and Sophia Nash, LIT social care students, who assisted with planning and facilitating the Parent Wellbeing Programme’.

‘This has been another success story of the Parent Wellbeing Programme where parents thoroughly enjoyed the eight workshops, were open to experiencing new things and have now identified follow up initiatives they would like to engage in. We hope to continue to run Parent Wellbeing Programmes in the Limerick area each year’.
