Respond was delighted to celebrate World Book Day in Tullow Library on Thursday 5th March 2015.
Over the last 18 years World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading.
To mark this event Respond Family Support Worker Niamh Flavin organised a trip to the local library for parents and children of the Doodle Den after-school literacy project which is run by Respond in Oakley Wood estate, Tullow, in conjunction with Childhood Development Initiative http://www.twcdi.ie/our-programmes/doodle-den
Tullow Library kindly put on a story-telling session for families in which local librarian Monica read the lovely book ‘The Lamb who came for Dinner’. Families engaged in crafts, puppet making and creating story-sacks which showed parents how to bring a book to life for their children. An entertaining afternoon was enjoyed by all.
